Last weekend, Cumberland High School's Scholastic Bowl team competed at the David L Riley Kickoff in Mattoon. There were 14 teams, including Mahomet Seymour, Centennial, Mattoon, Charleston, Bond County, Teutopolis, Paris, and University Lab Champaign Urbana. Cumberland placed 3rd in their pool, advancing them to the 5th-place game, where they defeated Charleston. Two students were named to the All-Tournament Team. Camden James was 9th with 40.84 points per game, and Jad Shoot was 8th with 49.17 ppg. Congratulations!

Mrs. Steber's Earth Science students have been learning about volcanoes. Students have been researching specific examples and built models of these to see their structure. The models include Arthur's Seat in Scotland, Barden Hill Quarry in England, Soufriere Hills in Montserrat, and Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland. Some have learned how to pronounce that one!

Congratulations to our CHS varsity scholastic bowl team! They brought their A-game on the stage of Scholastic HI Q Season 34, Episode 1 vs. Shawnee High School. They answered tough questions, worked as a team, and represented our school well. We're proud of each one of you!

CHS Art students have been staying busy with a wide variety of projects! Ceramics 1 students are working on their Masquerade Masks, Intro to Art students are making sculptures out of pantyhose, and Intermediate students are making Alteted Paintings. Graphic Design students are using Procreate on the iPads to make animal combinations, while Ceramics 3 students work on their concept sculptures. 🎨

The Cumberland cross country team held its awards night recently. The Mental Attitude Award was awarded to Aydan Oakley and Paula Hoehn. The Most Valuable Runner was awarded to Cameron Roedl and Paula Hoehn. Knights of the Round Table runners were Kade Bradley, Cameron Roedl, Paula Hoehn, and Piper McGinnis. The Pirate Award went to Kade Bradley and Paula Hoehn. Outstanding Open Runner was awarded to Henry Malone and Jacob Pierce. Most Improved was awarded to Cael McMechan and Paula Hoehn. The Top Freshmen were Colby Roedl and Vada Holsapple. The top Sophomores were Gavin Whitaker and Piper McGinnis. The Top Juniors were Cameron Roedl and Paula Hoehn. The Top Senior was Kade Bradley. Retake Picture Day is coming up on Monday, Nov 24! If you're satisfied with your child's picture, no further action is required.

If you purchased and are unhappy with your Picture Package, please send it to school with your student on Retake Day. Your Retake Picture Package will be produced and shipped to the school four weeks after Retake Day.

Cumberland High School went 6-0 in the Lincoln Trail College Tournament today earning 1st Place! CHS had three individuals who made the LTC All Tournament Team - Rylan James with 9 tossups, Jad Shoot with 13 tossups, and Camden James with 16 tossups. Congratulations!

In honor of World Kindness Day, the CHS National Honor Society invited instructors to nominate students who exemplify kindness in their everyday actions. Each nominated student received a certificate signed by their nominating teacher and a special treat from the NHS. Congratulations to all of the students recognized for spreading kindness!
