Students in Fellowship of Christian Athletes met on November 9 and heard from Caroline Kirchmer, EIU Volleyball Alum. Miss Kirchmer, a 4th grade teacher in the district, spoke to the students about staying strong in their faith while facing setbacks and disappointments, using her own injuries as an example. “You can’t compare yourself to anyone else because we are all given our own gifts and abilities,” Kirchmer said. “You have to focus on what you can do to help your team be successful.” Students enjoyed a variety of breakfast pastries provided by The Toledo Christian Church. The next meeting will be Thursday, December 8 with guest speaker Jordan Robinson.

High school Fellowship of Christian Athletes met Thursday, October 27 with guest speakers Matt Bollant, EIU’s Women’s Basketball Coach, and Emily, a Forward on the team. Coach Ballant shared about a time when his faithfulness and self-control during a particularly difficult event resulted in a major blessing later on. “I tamed my tongue and didn’t respond in the flesh,” Coach explained. He urged students to choose their friends wisely, stating their friends will either help or hinder their faith, and to listen to the Holy Spirit for guidance and direction. Emily shared about how she had worked through doubts to truly own her faith. She told students that reading her Bible daily and connecting regularly with other believers helps her through the challenges of being a college athlete, and she gave students some tips for sharing their faith with others. Special thanks to Courtney Beaumont and Memphis Waggoner for providing breakfast! The next FCA meeting will be Thursday, November 10 at 7:30am in the study hall room.
