Mrs. Young's third grade students enjoyed a tea party on Friday! The class had read Wind and the Willows, where the main character, Toad, was allowed only toast and tea. Connecting to the story and their classic tales unit, the class enjoyed tea and toast as well!

Brain break time! Every morning about this time, Mrs. Staley's third graders take a 10-15 minute brain break! After, they are energized, focused, and ready to learn!

During a recent reading assignment, Mrs. Figgins' class encountered a story featuring a narrator who finds renewed strength through playing the accordion. The students were delighted to discover that Brooks Braden, a middle school student, is an accomplished accordion player. Brooks graciously volunteered to perform for the class, sharing his musical talent and even allowing classmates to try the instrument themselves. The class extends its sincere appreciation to Brooks for his generosity and enthusiasm.

Mrs. Smyser's third graders learned whether words mean what they say or something more as they discussed literal and figurative language today. The elementary artists even illustrated the phrase, "One rotten apple spoils the whole bunch," and the results were very creative!

The hallway walls in Cumberland Elementary and Middle School are so bright and cheery! Mrs. Allison's art students each had a hand in the decorations! Their poster says, "Small hands can be a big help at Cumberland!" We appreciate their hard work!

Mrs. Carlen's class celebrated Purple Day on Tuesday by listening to the story Harold and the Purple Crayon and drawing a picture only using a purple crayon! 💜

Mrs. Figgins' 4th grade students faced a thrilling challenge on Friday: Saving Fred. Working in collaborative teams, students strategized and engineered solutions to rescue Fred, a stranded gummy worm, from his capsized boat (a plastic cup). Using only paper clips, students flipped the cup, retrieved Fred's life preserver (a gummy ring), and guided him to safety. Students ultimately discovered that what seemed impossible became entirely achievable through teamwork and creative problem-solving.

🍎✏️Mrs. McClellan's 4th graders are excited to get this year started! 📚
