Mr. Horath’s English classes are using this holiday season as an opportunity to write letters to Veterans. Each student is writing a letter, and the classes’ letters will be mailed to Veteran nursing homes. The classes hope to spread holiday cheer to Veterans that may be alone during the holidays.

Cumberland High School will host the Boys Basketball Turkey Tourney this week. Cumberland will play its first game against Marshall on Tuesday at 6 PM.


Cumberland High School's Scholastic Bowl teams competed in the Fairfield Tournament this past weekend. The varsity team won five games. They placed 3rd overall. Marshall Tipsword made the all tournament team with 32 tossups with 4 being powers. The JV team won two games and placed 6th. Rylan James made the all tournament team with 17 tossups with 2 being powers.



Students from the high school’s Dual Credit program visited EIU's Booth Library this week. Students located different items throughout the library. They were impressed with the size of the library!

The high school English students completed a library scavenger hunt today to help them learn how to navigate the call number system.

The high school PE students are working on their skills and teamwork while learning about the game of hockey.



Students in Fellowship of Christian Athletes met on November 9 and heard from Caroline Kirchmer, EIU Volleyball Alum. Miss Kirchmer, a 4th grade teacher in the district, spoke to the students about staying strong in their faith while facing setbacks and disappointments, using her own injuries as an example.
“You can’t compare yourself to anyone else because we are all given our own gifts and abilities,” Kirchmer said. “You have to focus on what you can do to help your team be successful.”
Students enjoyed a variety of breakfast pastries provided by The Toledo Christian Church.
The next meeting will be Thursday, December 8 with guest speaker Jordan Robinson.


Pirate Night is coming up! Meet the Pirates Friday, November 18, beginning at 7:30 PM. Admission will be an item for the food drive.
