
The Cumberland High School cheer team is hosting Mini Cheer Camp on September 17-19, with the performance on Friday, September 20. The cost of the camp is $40, which includes daily snacks, a t-shirt, and a bow. Order forms with payment are due back to the grade school office by Thursday, August 29 before the end of the school day. Any order forms turned in after this date will not receive a t-shirt and bow. Help us welcome Mrs. Lacy Cornell to Cumberland! Lacy is a secretary at Cumberland High School.
Lacy is married to Travis Cornell, and they have three children. Lacy and her family enjoy camping, spending time outside, and spending quality time with their family. She looks forward to getting to know the students and attending some athletic events throughout the year.

Today was new student orientation at the high school. Led by the student council, students toured the building, learned where their lockers and classes were located, and had the opportunity to ask questions. The new school year is just around the corner!



We would like to welcome Mrs. Shona Steber to Cumberland! Mrs. Steber will teach Earth Science, Physical Science, and Biology at Cumberland High School.
Mrs. Steber moved here to be with her husband. She was born and raised in Gloucester, England, and now lives in Mattoon. She taught for over five years in a senior school (combined middle and high school ages) in England. Shona enjoys reading and joined a local library book club. She and her husband are both avid gamers. She is excited to teach in a US high school and to see the differences between the US and the UK. She is looking forward to being part of the Cumberland community and joining the events, including her first prom!


Orientation for incoming freshmen and new CHS students will be held on Thursday, August 8, from 10 AM - 1:30 PM. Students will report to the cafeteria to begin the day. Lunch will be provided. Students are responsible for their transportation.

Some of the cross country runners competed in Detweiler at Dark last Friday. This race is run on the course of the high school state meet. Colby Roedl placed 15th overall in his class. Runners in the high school division were Gavin Whitaker, Cameron Roedl, Kaleb Bierman, Riley Morgan, Landon Finn, and Kade Bradley.



The CHS volleyball team will have a parent meeting on Thursday, August 1, in the high school cafeteria at 5:00 PM.

The CHS Cheer team attended the Ultimate Xperience Cheer Camp July 15-18 at Effingham High School. The squad competed against 14 other varsity teams Thursday afternoon. They were awarded the Most Improved Team out of the 20 teams attending the camp. They also came home with a spirit meg.
Caroline Fritts won Cheerleader of the Day on day one. This award was voted on by the staff and goes to a cheerleader who showed the qualities of cheerleading essence, who was most spirited, who had respect, and who encouraged the team and other teams throughout the whole day.
The team had multiple nominees for Best of Best tryouts. Nominees for Best of Best tumbling tryouts were Emma Ryan, Layla Holsapple, and Kaelin Edwards. Nominees for Best of Best jumps were Brielle Aaron, Emma Ryan, Kaelin Edwards, and Meah Scales. Nominees for Best of Best dance were Hailey Achenbach, Brielle Aaron, and Ava Hines.
Best of Best nominees competed Thursday morning for the Top 10. Emma Ryan placed Top 10 for Best of Best tumbling and Best of Best jumps. Kaelin Edwards placed Top 10 for Best of Best jumps.
