Mrs. Gibson was awarded a grant to participate in the Plant the Moon Competition through the Institute of Competition Sciences this fall. This is a national competition that NASA originally started as a citizen science project to gain ideas to feed astronauts sustainably on long space exploration missions. There are Lunar Missions and Martian Missions. The CHS classes are participating in the Martian Mission planting different plants in Mars soil simulant. There were enough granted kits to involve Mrs. Gibson’s and Mrs. Steber's BIO I classes and an ecology class. Middle schools, high schools, and colleges around the U.S. are participating.

Foods I students made homemade pancakes. They made the dry mix and added the liquid ingredients, including buttermilk. Cooking them without burning them proved to be a difficult task for some of the groups! They were delicious, though.

Students in Math Applications completed their small cardboard boat projects. They had to calculate the boat's volume to find water displacement and the sink line depth. Floating times and the accuracy of calculations were measured by testing how much weight each boat could hold before sinking. Up next, building a boat to float a classmate in a pool!
