Summer Trek Bus

Dear Parents/Guardians of Incoming 5th-8th graders (fall 2022):    

I would like to invite your child to participate in a Summer Trek Connections Education Program during the summer of 2022.  This opportunity is open to Cumberland Middle School students only.  Through some planning and generous sponsors, we aim to keep the costs down per trip.  In order to further plan, we need you to consider your child’s participation and return the following form with his or her commitment.  Contact Mrs. Keyser with any questions or concerns.  skeyser@cusd77.org  or 217-923-3132 extension 1200

Trip #1:  E-I-E-I-O
Visit Marcoot Creamery and Dairy in Greenville, IL, Ballard Nature Center, and  Cumberland County/Clark County grain and livestock farms and orchards 
Lunch:  bring a picnic lunch
Time:  7:30 AM-5 PM
Date: Tuesday, June 7, 2022  
Maximum cost per student: $  15

Trip #2:  Under the Sea and Magic
Visit the St. Louis Aquarium and the Magic House Museum
Lunch:  Old Spaghetti Factory, St. Louis, MO (This may change depending on the schedule of our tours)
Time: 7:00 AM- 7:30 PM
Date: July 12, 2022
Maximum cost per student: $ 40

Trip #3:  Say “Cheese” to a Turkey and Fish in a Log Cabin
Visit EIU bowling lanes or other area bowling alley (learn about turkeys, strikes, strategy, and bowl a few games), visit  Lincoln Log Cabin, and fish at Sam Parr State Park
Lunch:  bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at Lincoln Log Cabin
Time:  8 AM-5:15 PM
Date: Tuesday, July 19, 2022
Maximum cost per student: $ 20

Trip #4:  Reaching New Heights at the Zoo and in the Gateway Arch and Riverboat Lunch Cruise 
Visit the St. Louis Zoo and Gateway Arch and Riverboat Cruise on the Mississippi River 
Lunch: Lunch on the Riverboat (order will be taken prior to the trip)
Time:  7 AM- 7:30 PM
Date:  Tuesday, June 21, 2022
Maximum cost per student: $ 45

Trip #5:  Let’s Go to the Theatre
Visit the Little Theatre on the Square to watch a production of Junie B. Jones, Junior
Lunch:  Carl’s Pizza–make our own 6” pizzas and breadsticks and learn about the restaurant business
Time:  8:30 AM-2PM
Date:  Tuesday, August 9, 2022
Maximum cost per student:  $ 20

***Slight adjustments may have to be made to the opportunities at each event due to scheduling and availability.  Items in the description noted in bold print have been confirmed as of 05/12/2022.  Further confirmation will commence once final numbers are available.

Payment is expected for ½ of the fee of your child’s activities chosen and will be a non-refundable deposit.  Checks should be made payable to Cumberland Middle School.  The remaining balance is due before or on the day of the trip.

I understand that I am responsible for assisting with the cost of these trips (up to but not exceeding the maximum amount listed above) if outside sponsorship is not completely secured.  By signing this form, I am making the commitment that my child will be in attendance for the event and payment will be secured on the day of the trip.   Email communication will remind parents/students of the trip and the monetary contribution expected.  This will be sent one week prior to the event.  If a reservation is made to attend, it is the responsibility of the family to reimburse Cumberland Middle School for not being in attendance.  Students will be expected to follow directions given by chaperones (teachers and administrators) and misconduct will not be tolerated.  Misconduct will result in the forfeiture of any future opportunities to participate in the Summer Trek program.
