Cumberland Community Unit School District 77 celebrates summative designation marks for each school. Each year, schools in Illinois receive an annual summative designation on the Illinois Report Card. The designation is based on the school’s overall data and the data for each student group across all accountability indicators. The summative designations include:
1) Exemplary
2) Commendable
3) Targeted Support
4) Comprehensive
5) Intensive
CCUSD 77 is proud to announce that our high school and middle school received commendable status (no underperforming student groups), and our elementary school received exemplary status (the school is performing in the top 10% of all schools in Illinois).
The Illinois State Board of Education looks at several factors when determining each school’s summative designation status. At the high school level, graduation rate, chronic absenteeism, 9th grade students labeled ‘on-track to graduate’, and testing proficiency in math, language arts, and science are the main categories that make up the overall score. At the middle and elementary school levels, the main categories that make up the overall score are math and language arts growth, chronic absenteeism, and testing proficiency in math, language arts, and science.
These ratings reflect the district’s investments in hiring and retaining effective staff members, analyzing and implementing effective curricula, offering various activities that are an extension of the classroom, and providing a school culture that stimulates student growth and allows them to shine both inside and outside of the classroom.
“At CCUSD 77, student success isn’t measured on test scores alone; it’s felt in our hallways and classrooms. Student success can also be seen in the smiles on our students’ faces and the dedication of our teachers and staff members who treat every child as their own. Academic achievement is a great thing to strive for, but it’s the strong sense of connection and pride that make our district feel like one big family,” said Superintendent Darrell Houchin. “From the moment our students walk through the doors, they are known, supported, and encouraged to grow not just as students, but as people. We have awesome people at Cumberland who consistently go above and beyond for our students.”
In addition to its impressive achievements in the past year, CCUSD 77 is committed to continuous school improvement. In the upcoming school year, our educators and administrators look forward to focusing on attendance, student engagement, academic support systems, and social/emotional well-being. According to the district’s curriculum director, Angie McElravy, “One of the biggest indicators of academic growth is engagement. If students are engaged, their attendance improves. In order for our students to be successful throughout their school careers, we need them present, and we need to provide them with the skills they need to be productive citizens in the real world.”
