(Phoebis sennae eubule)

Description:
Males are bright yellow with no markings.
Females have black markings on outer edges of their wings. Both males and
females have two small silver spots on the underside of their hind wings.
They have a wingspan of over 3 inches. Adults have siphoning mouths and
migrate in late summer. They are harmless, and do no damage to plants.

Food:
They feed on thistle, morning glories, and goldenrod.

Larvae:
Their larvae are 1 inch long when fully
grown. They are a pale yellowish- green with yellow stripes on their
sides. Their body segments are marked by rows of black dots. They
feed on wild senna.

Range:
Range through Southern California and the
Southwest, east through the southern United States and south into Baja
California and northern Mexico.

About
Scientific Name: The genus name Phoebis comes
from the Greek word phiobos meaning "pure" or
"radiant," and the species name most likely refers to one of the
butterfly's host plants, Senna.
